The January 2006 Online PSQ Review

After a month off, pro-series tournaments returned to the online game! A great crowd of 47 gathered to test their might in the online game's post-Hunters, post-Middle-earth Draft environment. With all the buzz about the Rangers/Ithilien Blade deck, it's surprising how things turned out: only tournament winner Ellington managed to wield the Blade correctly.
The remainder of the top 8 contained some really wicked Evil Men variations. Finally recieving recognition after four sets, the Evil Men now have multiple options at their disposal: Archery, which can deal out a massive number of wounds; Bill Ferny Kill, which relies on Last Days to get Bill Ferny, Agent of Saruman out in the fierce skirmish and kill the Ring-bearer, and a Token variant, which uses Caravan From the South and Stragglers for massive combat bonuses.
There were few surprises on the Free Peoples side: old standbys like Dwarves and Gandalf/Ents were popular, along with one rogue Hobbit deck. Nobody managed any success with Elves or Rohan this time around. In fact, it's been quite awhile since a Rohan deck has placed in an online PSQ, not counting Eowyn, Lady of Ithilien, who goes in any deck with even a little Free Peoples archery. On the minion side, Uruk-hai still can't manage a top finish. Maybe the aptly named Rise of Saruman expansion will change all of that.
