Archery Phase

The archery phase begins with players using archery actions (denoted by the keyword "Archery") or playing events with the "Archery" keyword. After all players have consecutively passed on their archery actions (see the Action Procedure), the archery total for each side is calculated, by adding up all the characters with the "Archer" keyword (except those whose game text excludes them from the archery total and allies not at their home site).

There is always a "default" archery total of zero for each side. A card may add to your archery total even though you have no archers in play at that time. The Free Peoples player must then assign a number of wounds equal to the minion archery total to his companions (and participating allies) in any way he wishes. The Free Peoples player then selects one Shadow player who must assign a number of wounds equal to the fellowship archery total to his minions in any way he wishes. Wounds are assigned one at a time, so a character may not have more wounds assigned than that character's vitality. Ignore any leftover wounds that cannot be assigned. If there are no minions left after the archery phase, then skip directly to the regroup phase.

Archery Phase Summary:

  • Perform archery actions.
  • Determine archery totals for each side.
  • Free Peoples player assigns archery wounds to his companions (and participating allies).
  • Free Peoples player chooses one Shadow player.
  • That Shadow player assigns archery wounds to his minions.
