Chat Window
All lobbies, and many other screens, have their own chat window. Upon entering that lobby, you automatically join that chat window, and can see any message sent to it.
You can set your preferences for the chat window from the Display and Sound Preferences area of the Preferences Tab on the right.
You can also change the font size of the text in the chat window by right-clicking (or ctrl-clicking for Macintosh users) within the chat window, and selecting from the menu that appears.
Each chat window also has a list of the users in this lobby to the right of the text area.
Chat Window Commands
There are several comands that can be entered from the Chat Window. These are:
- /me
Entering "/me " will cause the text following the command to appear in the window preceded by your name. For example, if your user name was "Demonstrator", and you were to enter
/me is demonstrating an emote.
the following will appear in the Chat Window:
Demonstrator is demonstrating an emote.
- /resume
Entering "/resume" will give you popup window listing your adjourned games that are currently available to resume. For a game to be currently available to resume, all opponents from that game must currently be in the same lobby. You can resume or delete an adjurned game by using the 'resume' or 'delete' buttons on the window. Press 'close' to close the Resume window.
- /resumematch
Entering "/resumematch (match ID)" will allow you to resume a match identified by the specific match ID, rather than the name of the player(s). Those players must still be in the lobby at the time.
In the above example, where you were in the same lobby as Gandalf, with whom you had adjourned match 194368 earlier, you could also type:
/resumematch 194368
to start this match up again at the point at which it was adjourned.
- /ignore
Entering "/ignore " adds a player to your Ignore List. You will no longer see any text output from that player in the game and they may no longer join casual games you are hosting. They also will not be able to invite you to trade or ping you.
For example, to ignore the player Bob, you would type:
/ignore Bob
You can also add to your Ignore List from the Buddy and Ignore Lists Preferences Tab.
- /unignore
To remove a player from your Ignore List, enter "/unignore
For example, to remove Bob from your Ignore List, you would type:
/unignore Bob
You can also remove people from your Ignore List from the Buddy and Ignore Lists Preferences Tab.
- /addbuddy
To add a player to your Buddy List, enter "/addbudy " when that player is in the same lobby as you.
For example, to add the player Bob to your Buddy List, you would type:
/addbuddy Bob
You can also add to your Buddy List from the Buddy and Ignore Lists Preferences Tab.
- /removebuddy
To remove a player from your Buddy List, enter "/removebuddy " when that player is in the same lobby as you.
For example, to remove the player Bob from your Buddy List, you would type:
/removebuddy Bob
You can also remove people from your Buddy List from the Buddy and Ignore Lists Preferences Tab.
- /sayto
Directs a comment in the chat window to a particular player. All players can still see the comment, but it is prefaced with "(to )" to indicate the player it is intended for. This can be a good way to address a comment to a particular player when it might otherwise be ambiguous. The player addressed must be in the same lobby as you are.
For example, if your name was Carol, and you wanted to say "Hello" to Bob, you would type:
/sayto Bob Hello
This will result in the following appearing in the chat window:
Carol (to Bob): Hello
- /whisper
Entering "/whisper " will send the content of message privately to the nominated player. It will appear only in that player's chat window. The player must be in the same lobby as you.
For example, if Carol wanted to send a private message to Bob, she would type:
/whisper Bob Hello
This will result in the following appearing in only Bob's chat window:
Carol whispers to you, Hello
While Carol would see:
You whisper to Bob, Hello
- /ping
Entering "/ping " will cause a system beep and a text message to appear in that player's chat window. You may disable pings with "/ping off" and re-enable it with "/ping on." You may check your current ping status with "/ping ?"
- /quickjoin
Entering "/quickjoin" will behave just like clicking on the Quick Join button at the top of most lobby screens, causing you to join the first game that matches your existing Quick Join preferences. If you haven't set those preferences, a message telling you that will be printed.
- /joingame
Entering "/joingame " will allow you to join the game specified, as long as it has available seats left. The match ID of a game is shown in the top left corner of that game's Game Info Box.
For example, to join game #127491, you would type:
/joingame 127491
- /observegame
Entering "/observegame " will allow you to join the game specified as an observer. The match ID of a game is shown in the top left corner of that game's Game Info Box.
For example, to join game #98326 as an observer, you would type:
/observegame 98326
- /trade
Entering "/trade " asks a player if they would like to enter into a trade session with you. It functions exactly the same way as right-clicking (ctrl-clicking for Macintosh users) on a player's name in the user list and selecting "Trade." You must be in the Trade Lobby to use this feature.
- /help
Entering "/help" or "/?" will print a list of the available commands in the chat window.
In any chat window, the following keys will have the listed effects:
- UP ARROW and DOWN ARROW: Scroll through the previous messages you have typed
- LEFT ARROW and RIGHT ARROW: Move the cursor left or right within the message you are currently typing
- HOME and END: Move the cursor to the beginning or end of the message you are currently typing
