Rotation

Cards in The Lord of the Rings Online TCG are released in sets and blocks. Sets are released three times a year, with one large set in November, and two smaller expansion sets in March and July. The three sets in each year combine to make a block. Thus, the three sets making up Tower Block are The Two Towers, The Battle of Helm's Deep, and The Ents of Fangorn (sets 4, 5 and 6).

To keep the card pool manageable and to keep the start-up investment for new players to a reasonable level, only the three most current blocks are legal in Standard format. All blocks are available for play in Open and Expanded Formats.

Each time the first set in a new block is released,

Here are the listing of the blocks and when they will rotate...

  • Fellowship Block: Fellowship of the Ring, Mines of Moria, Realm of the Elf Lords -- Rotated out of play in March 2005 with the release of Black Rider.
  • Tower Block: The Two Towers, Battle of Helm's Deep, Ents of Fangorn -- Rotates out of play in November 2005 with the release of The Hunters.
  • King Block: The Return of the King, Siege of Gondor, Mount Doom -- Rotates out of play in November 2006 with the release of The Great Eye.
  • Reflections: While not technically part of the King Block (for purposes of block play), Reflections, the 9th set, will rotate out of Standard format along with King Block cards in November 2006 with the release of The Great Eye.

Each set is Standard Legal for approximately two and a half to three years. For information on sets and blocks (and the planned release schedule), click here. For more information on rotation, follow this link.
