Hunters Block
The Hunters Block, beginning with The Hunters, adds a number of interesting changes to The Lord of the Rings Online TCG.
Hunter Keyword
The Hunter keyword is found on both companions and minions, and is followed by a number. It's defined this way: If a character has Hunter X, then it gains strength +X while skirmishing a character without the Hunter keyword. For example, Aragorn, Thorongil has Hunter 2. He's strength +2 in a skirmish against any non-Hunter minion.
The Three Hunters
The Hunters also focuses on Aragorn, Gimli and Legolas, and their decision to hunt some Orc at the end of Fellowship of the Ring. There are three different versions of the Forth the Three Hunters! in the Hunters expansion, one for each of the Elven, Dwarven and Gondor cultures. All three have identical gametext and all have abilities that take advantage of Aragorn, Gimli and Legolas.
Other Hunters
This set also spotlights both companion and minions that fit the hunter theme, some with the Hunter keyword and some without: an angry version of Treebeard, Enraged Shepherd, a determined Eomer, Horsemaster, and a damaging Lurtz, Now Perfected are just three of them.
Making Up for the Loss of Tower Block
Towers Block rotated out of Standard Format when The Hunters was released. Therefore, the set includes several Standard-legal cards that work similarly to the older cards. Last Days of My House is a replacement for Simbelmyne. Eomer, Horsemaster is a worthy substitute for Eomer, Third Marshal of the Riddermark. Damrod, Dunadan of Gondor and Mablung, Ranger of Ithilien are powerful and more than make up for the loss of their older versions.
Now that you know the new mechanics and keywords, the next step is to master them in the game. The Hunters has X cards and Hunters Drafts are being formed all the time. If you want to dive in to the new block visit the Online Store where you'll find booster packs and 2 different Starter Decks.
